Exploring Greek Tragedy at the National Theatre

Back
October 16th 2025

A group of thirty Year 12 and Year 13 English Literature students were invited to the National Theatre to watch a performance of Bacchae, Euripides’ classic Greek tragedy. The modern staging offered fresh insight into themes of identity, power and divine influence.

Following the performance, the students took part in a workshop aimed at developing a schools’ edition of the play. Their conduct and enthusiasm were praised by the National Theatre’s education team, and their contributions throughout were thoughtful and constructive.

The experience supported their study of classical and dramatic texts and provided valuable insight into modern adaptation and performance. A great time was had by all and we look forward to continue our collaboration with The National Theatre.
