Learning Resource Centre
Welcome to the Warren School Library web page. My name is Mr. Davis and I am The Warren School's librarian. As well as being an avid reader, I am a practising artist; my studio is based in Chadwell Heath.
Since taking over the management of the school library in November 2019, the library space has been rejuvenated into a cross-disciplinary learning hub.
Students have the opportunity to learn about their subjects through art and image in the newly established Warren Gallery; a new show space and research area on the mezzanine level of the library, where the school invites outside organisations to display exhibitions and teach students about a variety of subjects.
During lesson time we have large groups of students with subject tutors, small groups with teaching staff, one to one tutoring and students who are given permission to work on their own in the Library. We have a collection of around 10,000 books; from classic literature to Manga graphic novels, the library is ever-growing. Students are encouraged to make book recommendations so that our library can flourish with diversity.
Most of our books are part of the Accelerated Reader initiative. This is a quiz-based reading challenge where Year 7 students compete with each other within their form class to achieve the most points and win rewards. Every ‘Reading Practice Quiz’ has a point value assigned to it based on the book level and the word count of the book (the book’s difficulty and length) - this helps encourage and make reading fun!
The library uses Accessit Library system software. This is accessible to the students via the Accessit phone app. Students can take part in and upload reviews of books for other students to see; they also have a searchable catalogue for every book in the library as well as a link to Project Gutenberg, an online database of free e-books.
The library is open between 8:55 am – 4:20 pm on Monday to Friday.
We have 36 desktop computers in our newly built library computer suite; these computers can be lowered into the desks making for a flexible work space environment.
Homework club is after school on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
