UEL 4

Year 11 GCSE PE students partook in a trip to the University of East London to experience fitness testing at a higher level.

Students had the opportunity to listen and absorb key and contemporary research which is being undertaken at UEL. Students completed a light agility test, Box Power Jump and a Wingate cycle test using research grade equipment. Students used their own baseline knowledge of fitness testing to suggest the reasons for their own tests scores. The lecturers asked students to suggest methods to improve testing to get more reliable results.

Both the staff at UEL and the students highly enjoyed the discussions throughout the day and the level of participation from the students was very high. Students stated they had a great day and were very interested in the differences in scores and the different career opportunities available in the field of PE.

Abrar - “It was a very important and informative day which enabled us to develop a deeper understanding of fitness testing and components of fitness. This will help me understand this better going into my exams.”

Rebekah - “Today was a great day and an opportunity to experience high quality sporting facilities that are available at university, especially somewhere very close to us.”
