Students from The Warren School have recently attended two basketball games at The Copperbox Arena, home of the London Lions. 50 Key Stage 3 and 50 Key Stage 4 students had the opportunity to experience a live sporting event, with this being the first time for many.

The London Lions’ first match was against a fierce Turkish side in which the Lions were beaten in the final quarter 76-61. The Lions fought hard but were up against a tough opponent.  Our students were lucky enough to meet some of the Lions players and talk about the game.  They had an amazing time, cheering 3 pointers being scored and the half time performance. Many students involved have stated that they are interested in starting to play basketball since their experience of this live fixture.

The second fixture saw Key Stage 4 students witness the London Lions take on Leicester Riders. Again, this was a thrilling event with an amazing turnout to watch some of the biggest stars in the British Basketball League.  The Lions fought hard until the final quarter in which we saw some fatigued legs hit the court and the Riders dominating both possession and the speed of the game. All students involved enjoyed their experience and hope to attend another game soon.
