Author Visit – Nicola Garrard’s ’29 Locks, 21 Miles & On the Edge’

A group of students from our Year 7, 8 ,9 ,10 and 12 cohorts were lucky enough to attend a workshop in the library given by author, Nicola Garrard. The workshop aimed to highlight the racial injustices and housing crises that are arising which deeply affect young people everywhere.

They were given a chance to hear Nicola read an excerpt from her books, providing a valuable insight into her writing and themes such as child exploitation, and crime which are explored more in the texts. They also participated in a wonderful creative writing activity, called ‘Free Writing’, which the students delved into with confidence.

The workshop allowed them to broaden their minds to opportunities in writing and literacy whilst learning about important issues revolving around our society. Their enthusiasm and response to the workshop were immensely positive and we look forward to future author visits and collaboration with Pen To Print.
