Year 10 Future Frontiers Programme
BackA group of year 10 students attended the Future Frontiers Mentoring Workshop at the JM Finn building on 19th June 2025.
This mentorship programme is aimed at providing the selected group of students with the help and support they will need during and after their GCSE exams. The workshop began with an overview of what the programme involves and the importance of mentorship programme in helping to navigate educational and career choices. During the introductory session, students completed a pre-programme survey and they were given an overview of what the mentorship programme entails.
Employees at JM Finn Wealth Management Company have been assigned as coaches to this group of Y10 students. The students will be working with their coach over the next 4 weeks, using a handbook which covers different activities such as discussion, research and a writing task.
Following the introductory session, students participated in breakout sessions where they paired up with their assigned coaches for the duration of this programme.
The mentorship programme consists of 4 coaching sessions:
The first coaching session will involve the participants exploring their skills and interests and will learn about different careers.
The second session called the bridging workshop and this involves recapping what the participants have learnt in the previous coaching session so as to help them prepare for the choices they will make in year 11.
The third session will cover the careers guidance workshop and this involves the programme provider visiting the school to do a workshop aimed at preparing students for their next step.
The final workshop will involve participants creating an action plan with their coaches showing what and where they want to study after school.
The students were encouraged towards the end of the session to attend all sessions so as to get the most out of their session.
All students were highly engaged with the programme provider and their individual coach and all has shown interest in continuing with this mentoring programme.
