Our Sixth Form Media and Film Studies students attended the Advertising Unlocked Workshop at McCann, at London Liverpool Street. The trip was a culturally enriching experience allowing students to develop skills in advertising and marketing, as well as to speak with industry experts about how to get into the media industry. It also had relevance to certain units studied in their courses. Students were given the opportunity to explore key aspects of advertising and took part in workshops to come up with adverts, pitching to experts in the field.

Our Year 13 Film student, Hana, had the below to say about the trip:

“I enjoyed the trip to the McCann Advertising agency, as I found the employees to be very hospitable. I was also impressed by the number of big name brands they had worked with, namely Just Eat and Microsoft, as I was quickly able to recognise the examples of adverts displayed on screen. The atmosphere was also very friendly and the activities we were provided with were very engaging and relevant to what we were there for and gave us a good grasp of the unique creative process that goes into advertisement.

The tour we went on was also very informative and gave us great insight into the many aspects of advertisement.  For example, when we were brought to the editing room and were told about how to get into that type of job role, what skills it would require, and what experience was needed. Questions were answered informatively as well, and we were more comfortable speaking up and asking, due to how open the people we were speaking to were, and how kindly they reciprocated with their answers.

Overall, I found my experience at McCann to be an informative, and inviting experience, where I was thoroughly able to enjoy myself upon seeing the vast offices and number of different job roles that were available as well as the purpose that each one provided.”
