Sport is at the heart of school life, providing every student with the opportunity to fulfil their dreams, aspirations and need to have a physically active lifestyle.
Extensive grounds and facilities enable a wide variety of sports to be played with the opportunity to take part in many extra-curricular clubs available to all students.
The curriculum provides the students with the opportunity to develop their skills, understanding and interest in sporting experiences.
The department has highly qualified and enthusiastic physical education teachers, ably supported by a number of specialist sports coaches from local professional clubs and national sporting governing bodies. This wealth of experience allows students to have the opportunities to compete at year, district, county, regional, and national level.

We firmly believe that learning extends beyond the classroom and everyone is encouraged to participate to develop their skills and also to understand the importance of an active healthy lifestyle and the value of working as part of a team.
Our vision is to offer a differentiated programme of movement and sport which ensures that all students:

All students participate in at least two hours of PE every week in key stage 3.
Pupils will take part in a number of different sports from a number of different activity areas. They will cover the same key concepts in years 7, 8 & 9. The level of difficulty and complexity will increase throughout the key stage.
All pupils at KS3 will be taught using Key Concepts:

Achievement, Excel and Success Pathways - Year 7 & Year 8
Pupils will be taught the knowledge, skills and understanding through different areas of activity:

Achievement, Excel and Success Pathways - Year 9
Pupils will be given the opportunity to become more expert in their knowledge, skills and understanding through four areas of activity:

• Athletic activities. (Athletics & Cross Country)
• Outdoor and adventurous activities.

Core Physical Education:
Students have one core PE lesson per week. Groups are organised in single sex, mixed-ability groupings.
During Years 10 and 11, a core Physical Education programme is followed by all students at the School. The aim at Key Stage 4 is to provide students with activities that will encourage them to take part in a healthy and active lifestyle beyond school life.
Where possible, students choose termly from a selection of programmes.
A wide variety of games is offered, including both individual and team games as well as net-wall games and striking/fielding games. These may include: badminton, basketball, netball, cricket, football, rounders, softball. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in a number of health & fitness related options, including step aerobics, circuit training, indoor rowing and S.A.Q training. All students are expected to follow a least one of the programmes of study. The emphasis is on developing positive attitudes to physical activity, and students are, therefore, expected to participate fully in the programme chosen, developing and fostering a lifelong love of active participation.
Within the units covered the emphasis is on developing positive attitudes to physical activity, and students are, therefore, expected to participate fully in all PE lessons (100% participation policy). A great deal of importance is placed on helping students develop personally and socially. They work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibility. They take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating. Through the range of experiences that PE offers, they learn how to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations.

GCSE Physical Education: Eduqas
Practical 40% Internally Assessed/Externally Moderated
Theory 60% External Examination
GCSE PE is open to all students but is more suited to those who participate in school teams or external sports clubs. We do expect students to have shown full participation, enthusiasm and appropriate conduct during their Year 9 P.E. lessons. In order to be successful students should take part in school clubs and should also be playing sport for external sports clubs or teams.
Throughout the two year course students will experience a range of sports.
The first part of the course is practically based and weighted at 40%.
Students will be assessed in three activities from the full range of National Curriculum areas. There will be flexibility within these areas to allow all students to show themselves at their best. Students can be assessed in 2 individual sports and 1 team sport or 2 team sports and 1 individual sport. There is also an assessment which involves critically analysing their own or others performance within one of their chosen activities they are assessed in, which is worth 10% on the coursework grade.
The second part of the course (60%) revolves around the theory of sport, covering the following areas in a 1hr 30min exam.
Students will cover the following areas and develop understanding and knowledge of:
- A range of skills and tactics for several sports
- Knowledge of rules and officiating in several sports
- Individual differences
- The demands of performance
- Health, fitness and a healthy active lifestyle
- Training Methods
- Diet and hydration
- School influences
- Cultural and social factors such as drugs & hooliganism
- Opportunities and pathways for becoming involved in physical activities
- International and other factors

Students have the opportunity to take the following BTEC National Sport Course in the Warren Sixth Form;
- BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport (= 3 A Levels)
