The Year 12 and 13 Historians took a day trip to the V&A Museum in South Kensington for an enriching experience to learn and observe the artefacts displayed in the museum, specifically on British India. The Year 12s who will be writing their coursework on how independence was attained from the British Raj and the Year 13s who are in the process of finalising their coursework, looked through the many textiles and paintings covering the Indian subcontinent. Students were able to apply prior learning of the history of India to what they were reading at the exhibition on the different empires India had been under, thus further enhancing their understanding of India under British colonialism. Students really enjoyed their experience, as it gave them a chance to develop their knowledge through enquiry as well as provoking the imagination of the history they learn in lessons. It was also a lovely day; the weather was nice and dry (for the most part) and it was apparent the students enjoyed being out in Central London!
