A group of Year 8 pupils enjoyed a trip to the British Library on Tuesday 8th January 2019. The Questioning Texts workshop challenged to think critically when approaching a new text. The highlight being when pupils were able to explore the some of the displayed texts at one of library’s display gallery and apply some of the skills discussed earlier in the workshop to some unseen texts.
Pupils were able to view and discuss some texts with considerable historical relevance, including an original letter from Queen Victoria to William Gladstone discussing her opposition to the women’s rights movement, the first collection of Shakespeare’s play that had ever been published and the original manuscript of Wilfred Owen’s World War One poem Anthem For Doomed Youth.
Pupils enjoyed their visit and we look forward to visiting the library again.
