Talk with children’s author Alex Wheatle

On Monday 19th February, award-winning author Alex Wheatle visited The Warren to give a talk about his life and inspirations to 80 year 9 pupils. Wheatle spoke of growing up in care, experiencing the Brixton Riots of the 1980s, and of eventually finding the inspiration to become a writer during his time in prison. All pupils enjoyed the talk greatly and many discussed how they found it inspirational and uplifting.

Wheatle is the author of popular young adult novels such as Liccle Bit, which is available in the school library, and Crongton Knights, awarded the Guardian’s Children’s Fiction Prize in 2016.

Many thanks for Mrs Robinson and Miss Shaikh for organising this amazing event.
