Welcome to Year 9
Year 9 Motto: “Whether you think you can, or think cannot, you’re right.” Henry Ford
During Year 9, pupils will be looking to consolidate the foundation skills they have acquired in Year 7 and 8 and most importantly, decide on the subjects they will study in their GCSE courses in year 10 and 11.
This is an important time for our pupils with decisions being made that will affect their career path in the future. During this time they are supported by the Achievement Team Leader, Miss. Rodney and Mrs Patience the Year Care Team for Year 9. Both Miss Rodney and Mrs Patience work closely with subject teachers, Curriculum Team Leaders, Attendance officers, Senior Leadership Team and the various other members of staff who are available to ensure that all pupils are able to achieve their full potential on a daily basis.
Furthermore, we have fantastic experience within the Year 9 pastoral team with form tutors taking a proactive approach to supporting pupils with their learning. Tutors are the first port of call for any issues and will see their tutees first thing in the morning as well as the end of the day allowing them to pick up on challenges our students may be facing.
As pupils start to think about their own individual learning pathways it is important to remember that most of the courses they will be studying have a linear structure, meaning they will not be assessed until the end of Year 11. With this in mind it is crucial that students are focused, organised from the start and attend school every day. Pupils will engage in PSHCE lessons during form time discussing topics in a mature and confident manner. These lessons will also help to develop those higher order skills (evaluating and analysing) which assist pupils in gaining those higher grades.
As our school motto states we expect pupils to, ‘be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing’ and pupils need to maintain this focus in order to achieve their potential. Therefore, it is imperative that the school and parent relationship is strong and collaborative. If we are working together we will be able to give our young people the best opportunity to be successful in the future. Parents are encouraged to look at the school website to stay in touch with schemes of work and homework for each subject. This year group have demonstrated a mature attitude towards their studies during Year 8 and with continuous hard work and dedication we are confident that they can progress within their studies moving into Year 9.
They are an enthusiastic group of young people who have made a fantastic impression on whoever they come into contact with and we expect these pupils to make the school, their families and the local community proud. Please feel free to contact me at school to discuss your child’s progress and I look forward to celebrating their future success.
