Our older students have the opportunity to visit some of the local colleges to give them the chance to find out more about their Post-16 options.
Trip to the Zoo
Year 11 students who are currently completing an AQA Award in Geography on Rainforest environments were taken to Colchester Zoo to see the animals in real life and learn about why they are in Zoos and not in their natural habitat. They had the opportunity to feed the giraffes and elephants while they were there.
Trip to Trinity FE and Barking & Dagenham College
Here are some photos from our recent trip to Trinity FE and Barking and Dagenham College. Future trips are planned to Havering college.
They had the opportunity to meet and talk to different people to learn more about the courses and choices available. They found it very educational and helped them to understand what they want to do in the future.
Students were taken onto a sports day where they competed against other schools in a range of sporting activities.
Our students are also encouraged to learn independent skills in the kitchen
Most recently students were taken to Southend on Sea as part of their Geography field trip. This links into the AQA Awards that they are studying. For many this was their first experience in visiting the seaside and students were excited about having a paddle in the sea, hunting for crabs and shells. The trip concluded with a visit to the Sealife centre where students were able to handle live star fish and crabs.
In preparation for the trip students were learning about coastal areas and joined forces with the Art department to make and paint their own coastal area.
“I have never been to the seaside before; I had such as great day”
“I enjoyed making the coast line and then visiting the coast”
“My lessons are always fun and interesting”
Nature in Art
The students are learning about nature in art, and how nature can inspire them to create beautiful artworks. They were taken outside to observe nature, and to look closely at the beauty and textures of trees, leaves and flowers. They got into the spirit of autumn and took inspiration in the piles of autumn leaves in the playground. They drew and sketched them closely, and were excited by throwing and kicking them in the air, feeling the wind blow the colourful autumn leaves. It was a lesson of exploring and the students exceeded themselves in their artistic endeavour to observe nature.
