Overnight on Friday 30th September a group of Year 11 students took part in a practice expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award. They camped overnight at Gilwell Park, the scout association’s world centre in Chigwell. The students had to pitch their tents and prepare their own food before settling down to camp for the night. In the morning they broke camp at 08:00 and completed a 13 kilometre hike through Epping Forest, navigating a pre-planned route to help them develop their navigation skills. Each student was carrying all their equipment from the camp which made for hard going especially as they had to contend with heavy rain for the first part of the hike. We are proud to say that all the students completed the hike in good spirits and built a team spirit which will help them in the main expedition later in the year. Well done to all who took part.
