The Year 11 football team have been crowned worthy champions of the Barking and Dagenham Borough Cup
In a fixture that was primed to be exhilarating, fast tempo and combative, both sides failed to disappoint the capacity crowd who set the atmosphere from the whistle. Robert Clack took an early lead with a right-footed shot from the 6-yard box and looked comfortable in the initial stages of the contest, spreading the ball nicely across the vast 3G pitch. However, Warren’s very own Greg ‘Buffon’ vowed to let nothing else past him for the remainder of the game, a promise he bravely kept, despite a constant onslaught of attempts. Greg’s most impressive save came from the last kick of the first half, pouncing like a panther to deny the in-form Clack front-man.
Warren emerged from the second half a different team; controlling the pace of the game and finding their passing stride with some fantastic work from Leon and Harris on the flanks. Harris curled in a pin-point corner which was met by a punishing header: 1-1, all to play for. With a grueling ten minutes to go, Axel’s expertly executed floating free kick from the half-way line was met with equal accuracy by Matthew, who left the Clack keeper rooted to the spot with a rifling header in the top right hand corner of the net, giving Warren a lead that they managed to hold on to for the remainder of the game. Final score: Warren 2-1 Robert Clack.
The boys should be incredibly proud of their achievements in the cup and the outcome is testament to their teamwork, camaraderie and willingness to take on board advice and respond during the game.
Man of the match: Greg
